I figured the the Force Awakens was a reboot for a new generation and as it was basically a complete remake of A New Hope I got it fine I can live with that. BUT now this one was more or less a remake of Empire Strikes Back with a bit of Return of the Jedi.
This is how I feel.
Disney has said to the older generation of star wars fans, here are a few of the old characters and we kinda put it in a star wars world, but other than that PLEASE FK OFF, we dont care about you, we dont care about the deluge of BRILLIANT novels written prior which truly fleshed out the star wars world, we DONT CARE! what we DO care about is the NEW generation of star wars fans that are younger we want to make a fun non deep story for them! WHY? you ask BECAUSE they are the ones who are and will buy all the MERCHANDISE. The older generation you guys are not going to buy the lunch boxes, the shirts, the toys, the wookie backpacks and Ray school folders, so bugger off.
Unfortunately this is a long standing history with star wars is the merchandise sales. After a New Hope hit big Lucas saw he potential for merchandise but not before. But now Disney being Disney in my opinion are making star wars films to fulfill the merchandise sales ramp they do with all Disney products. And while I am okay with that in many ways I just think they have strayed too far from that rustic charm that was Star Wars originally. Get the director from Rouge One to make the last film and hey we might get another great film. I wont hold my breath.
