Hey guys with ships. I promised that i would talk about my new favorite ship in the game, the hammerhead, and here it is. This is a ship that im going to be a little bit biased on, but it deserves all the praise im going to give it until CIG changes it. We needed this ship for so many reasons that im going to write another review on that issue alone later this week. But for now lets look at the latest and greatest of Aegis vessels....
What is the Hammerhead?
She is a manned turret based patrol or escort vessel. With stock loadout she is meant to hunt down and destroy swarms of smaller vessels as quickly as possible with turrets that have the widest coverage we have seen to date. And if she needs to fight a large vessel she can bring both forward missiles and more than half of her turrets to bear at a time. In short she is a lightweight true multi-crew ship that is meant to blow **** up and chew bubble gum.
How effective in battle?
DAMN good. She has 24 size 4 weapons and 32 size 3 missiles! What does that equate to? Nothing in game except the bigger polaris honestly. The closest comparison i think i could make is if i had 6 sabres grouped up it would still have only 24 size 3 guns and 24 missiles of same size 3s as hammerhead. Or maybe each turret on the hammerhead is equal to what an andromeda pilot has in his hands is another way to put it. As long as the hammerhead has enough power to keep the guns firing she is a DPS machine with insane spray and pray. CIG finally got learned how to make a vessel with lots of turrets as meaningful as bringing a wolfpack of vessels. Only a very few vessels can match per ass in seat the firepower of the hammerheads turrets so you give this sucker respect.
She looks beautiful but its not all looks, its functional. The back turrets seem to be able to fire forward without hitting the forward turrets, its got a top turret and lower turret, and etc. In fact the turret layout is so good that you could theoretically bring 5 turrets to bear on a single target if you are willing to offer up the most surface area in return. 20 size 4s on a single target!!! The cargo, living quarters, and all other aspects lay out really well so far. Nice!
There is no question that you are paying a premium here as she has a warbond cost of $550 and store credit of $650 USD. That is a lot more cost effective than those 6 sabres of $1020 but its still a lot of cash compared to say the polaris and other larger vessels. I wish it was a little cheaper but its definitely unique and has value.
Well put the hammerhead up against the polaris on the ship matrix if u want a combat comparison. The radar isnt great but computers are solid. Shields and power plant are great for its size but the fuel tanks stink. The Flight characteristics and physical layout of the ship is nice though. She should be more than enough.
Expected Speed and Agility?
Id say something akin to the gemini or perhaps the caterpillar. If she is even close to either of those then she will easily be able to manage the situation well and be able to rotate out turrets and shields so that wolfpacks of single seaters will just have to stay in a single zone and eat the fire.
Hey i already got one in my hangar. If that isnt enough of a recommendation then i cant convince you of its worth. She is pricey but if you are willing to spend that kind of money in game she is worth every penny in my opinion. I can get one for even less than the store credit price so i have no reason to not get one. If you dont want to be a pilot but want to kill things, you need to come join me as a gunner on my hammerhead. i have to rate this thing somehow and its hard to do. On the one hand its not as price effective as the polaris and its combat only, but it added something we sorely needed to the verse as well. Its not quite perfect so im going to settle on a 9/10. Thats right i gave it the same rating as the gemini, the ship i previously said was damn near perfect. Later this week come have a look at why i think this ship had to be made and what it adds to the Verse. Do you agree with me? Comment below
