Hey guys! The time of the anniversary sale is coming up sooner rather than later and because of last years success on my posting about that topic i wanted to do the same again this year. But as i got to thinking about it i became more and more convinced that just a little bit of prep work might be beneficial to you guys. Today i would like to deliver some of that prepping by touching on what ships me and my crystal ball have come to believe that are the Top 5 ships to get during the sale. This list will be heavily influenced by the new ship matrix and the updates given to us about ships since CitizenCon so feel free to check that information for further details AND will be focusing on what changed from last year. A special thanks to Doc Buckshot for his helping me go through the data and talking it out with me to aid me in my cause.
#5 any $350 ship
OK! OK! I cheated here and i'm sorry for putting multiple ships under a single spot on the list but it's not without reason. The entire range of the $350 ships and their gains made from last year comes down to the price jump from the Banu Merchantman price jump and not much else. The formerly $250 USD alien vessel now being priced at $350 means that all $350 ships may now cost you $100 less if you took the zero cost CCU last year (as i urged) or own the concept ship. So unless another price change happens or the zero cost CCUs get taken away before the sale, you got no reason not to re-examine your desire for any of these ships. Should you be fortunate enough to own the concept sale BMM, i advise you to apply a zero cost CCU of whatever $350 ship you like best just because you can always just melt the BMM and get it back… but if you don't apply it CIG may take away the zero cost CCUs (thus taking away your chance for a cheap upgrade).
#4 Hull D
Speaking of $350 ships, we have a diamond in the rough that is the Hull D. Now i am fully aware that hauling cargo with not too many guns is going to be in everyone’s interest, but there are some very interesting stats revealed to us by CIG. For instance, did you know that the Hull D is the ONLY ship that is expected to have capital grade components across the board at anywhere near this price point? Some critics might say “Well of course Paladin it's a freaking super freighter” but that's the whole point as you are getting the most ship for your dollar at this price point. If this ship really can live up to the hype and carry even half of what they think it will, then it's going to be a huge money maker. Finally, i'm intrigued by a cargo vessel having two capital scale shields. That would make this a much tougher shell to crack than i had thought it would be, and makes this ship worth a second thought/chance.
#3 Starfarer Gemini
A case of the rich getting richer here as i still stand by my claim that Gemini is the best ship in the game and a leading contender among all ships still to come. The main thing i would focus on here is that every single turret is slated to get guns one size bigger. Whereas we were shooting panther repeaters now we will be shooting revenants and we have 2 size 6 guns on the top turret. HOLY HELL! That is a lot of firepower as everyone with a weapon aboard the ship has comparable firepower to a single seater fighter. I dare say that the gemini is a premiere black hat vessel now as pretty much every vessel from an aurora up to a polaris will give respect to this vessel. Not much else i can say really.
#2 Vanguard Warden
With the recent announcement that the BUKs for the Vanguard are going away and that the equipment and/or chassis of the series can be swapped around, we now have a ship that has tremendous diversity. Being able to combine the best parts of the Warden, Harbinger, and Sentinel for what you want/need at the lower $250 price point makes for a safe bet for you combat oriented citizens. Speaking of the combat, the new redundancy of shields, power plants, and most of the rest of its components means that Vanguard is able to take a beating that other ships simply cannot. The unique combination of gimbaled and fixed thrusters means the ship will still be flyable even after severe damage, it has two engines, dense allows for armor, i mean i could go on and on about how tough it is. Perhaps best of all, it's completely able to be flown by one guy. Yes it has a turret but we know that automated turrets are coming so the one weakness it may have had is compensated for with its strong computers. If you want to bring as much firepower as possible into a fight and not worry about making sacrifices, the Warden is definitely your ship and deserves respect on the battlefield.
# Honorable Mention: Caterpillar
Because of my talks with Doc i had to include this ship. The Cat has significant advantages over its competitors because of its 3 computers, an upgrade to size 5 weapon turrets, and confirmed tractor beams. The Cat is emerging as a genuine jack of trades and is the best vehicle transport we have at this time. That may not be the most impressive thing at this point and time but it's definitely something to watch and to consider as we get more and more vehicles in the next year.
#1 Cutlass Black
You had to know it was going to be the Cutlass. A lot of us have been waiting for this ship to get reworked for a long time and what we got is AMAZING. I can only compare this thing to Vietnam War “Death From Above” style butt kicking awesomeness. It's a cargo transport, it's a two dragonfly transporter, it's a freaking gunship with 24 size 2 missiles, it's got tractor beams, its almost anything you want it to be. If someone asked me “Hey i can only afford one ship on a reasonable budget, what should i get” i'm going to tell them the cutlass 95% of the time. I would actually have to do a whole review on this ship because it deserves it but i ask that you simply take me at my word that the entire series of Cutlass is going to be a predator. Finally, get the gladius to black CCU just because a price jump is coming. Even if you decide the black is not for you, you should get it just so you get a discount on something you do want.
